Refund Policy

Last updated: August 5, 2026

This Refund Policy explains how refunds work for one-time book purchases and subscriptions on TheAuthor.io, and supplements Sections 5 and 6 of our Terms of Service. If anything here conflicts with the Terms, this policy governs refund handling specifically.

1. All Sales Are Final

One-time book purchases and subscription charges are non-refundable. TheAuthor.io is a digital service: the moment you generate or continue a book, the cost of producing it has already been incurred, and you receive a real, complete result — a generated book and cover — not a metered allowance that can be partially unwound. We do not offer discretionary or partial refunds on any purchase.

2. Subscriptions — Cancel Anytime, No Refund on Past Charges

If you're on the Books Subscription, you may cancel at any time from your account dashboard or the billing portal. Cancelling stops future renewal charges and you keep access through the end of your current billing period, but it does not refund any charge already made — including the current period's charge, even if you cancel shortly after renewal.

3. One-Time Book Purchases

A one-time book purchase is a single payment for a single book, with no recurring charge and no subscription to cancel. Once purchased, the book is yours to keep, read, export, and edit without limit — and, per Section 1 above, the purchase itself is final.

4. Your EU/EEA/UK Right of Withdrawal

If you are a consumer located in the European Union, European Economic Area, or United Kingdom, you ordinarily have a 14-day right to withdraw from an online purchase without giving a reason. Because this Service delivers digital content immediately upon payment, that right does not survive full performance of the contract — at checkout you are asked to expressly request immediate access and, where this right applies to you, to waive it in exchange for immediate delivery. This is the only refund right available under this policy; see Section 6 of our Terms of Service for full detail.

5. Payment Disputes

If you believe you were charged in error, contact support before initiating a chargeback or other payment-provider dispute — we're able to review and resolve genuine billing issues directly. If a chargeback is filed instead, we will contest it using your account's purchase and usage records; chargebacks are not a substitute for contacting support and may result in suspension of your account while the dispute is resolved.
