Refund Policy

This Refund Policy explains how refunds work for Writer and Author subscriptions on TheAuthor.io, and supplements Sections 5 and 6 of our Terms of Service. If anything here conflicts with the Terms, this policy governs refund handling specifically.

1. All Sales Are Final

Subscription charges are non-refundable. TheAuthor.io is a digital service: the moment you spend a Book Coin to unlock a book, the cost of producing it has already been incurred, and you receive a real, complete result — a finished book and cover — not a metered allowance that can be partially unwound. We do not offer discretionary or partial refunds on any charge.

You can try the service before paying anything. Writing a book's first chapter and generating its cover is free and requires no card, so you can see the quality of the output before you subscribe.

2. Cancel Anytime, No Refund on Past Charges

You may cancel at any time, yourself, from your account — no email required and no retention call to sit through. Cancelling stops future renewal charges and you keep full access through the end of the period you have already paid for, but it does not refund any charge already made, including the current period's charge, even if you cancel shortly after a renewal.

3. Book Coins

Each plan grants a set number of Book Coins per month — one on Writer, ten on Author. Coins reset to your plan's amount on each renewal and do not roll over: unused coins expire at the end of the month rather than accumulating, and they have no cash value and cannot be refunded, transferred, or exchanged. A coin spent on a book is spent, including where you are simply unhappy with the result; you can edit, re-cover and re-export that book without limit and without spending another.

4. What Happens to Your Books After You Cancel

Your books remain fully available — to read, edit and export — until the end of the period you paid for. After a subscription ends, your library is retained for 30 days and then permanently deleted, along with the generated files and cover images associated with it. Resubscribing within those 30 days restores everything; after deletion, recovery is not possible.

Export anything you want to keep before cancelling, or within that 30-day window. You own full commercial rights to your books, and exported files are yours permanently and are unaffected by anything that happens to your account.

5. Your EU/EEA/UK Right of Withdrawal

If you are a consumer located in the European Union, European Economic Area, or United Kingdom, you ordinarily have a 14-day right to withdraw from an online purchase without giving a reason. Because this Service delivers digital content immediately upon payment, that right does not survive full performance of the contract — at checkout you are asked to expressly request immediate access and, where this right applies to you, to waive it in exchange for immediate delivery. This is the only refund right available under this policy; see Section 6 of our Terms of Service for full detail.

6. Payment Disputes

If you believe you were charged in error, contact support before initiating a chargeback or other payment-provider dispute — we're able to review and resolve genuine billing issues directly. If a chargeback is filed instead, we will contest it using your account's purchase and usage records; chargebacks are not a substitute for contacting support and may result in suspension of your account while the dispute is resolved.
